There are, very generally, two main types of water pump.
• Centrifugal – which uses a rotating impeller- like a fan - to pull water into the pump and then pressurize the outward flow.
• Positive Displacement or Diaphragm – which often uses a flexible diaphragm which is mechanically contracted and expanded to change pressure and create a fixed flow.
However, pumps intended for domestic use tend to come in the categories Clean Water Pumps and Dirty Water Pumps
