A garden spreader is a portable labour saving device, used to distribute fertiliser or seeds into lawns and gardens. They distribute evenly and cover a larger area more efficiently than spreading by hand. (See image below)

They can also be used in the winter to spread anything from ice melts to grit and salt to combat icy weather.*
They are often known a seed spreaders or fertiliser spreaders and are usually two-wheeled.
They can be operated manually (i.e. pushed) or can be towed behind a variety of larger and smaller vehicles.
